Fort Augustus Golf Club

The Fort Augustus Golf Club is located between Invergarry and Invermorrison in direct proximity to the infamous Loch Ness. The club can be easily reached by car via the A82 from Inverness in around an hour. The Fort Augustus Golf Club (par 67) is considered by many to be one of the most challenging 9-hole golf courses in Scotland. The golf course was built in 1924 by Harry Shapland Colt in the characteristic moor and heath landscape along the banks of the Caledonian Canal. Due to the very narrow fairways, golfing at Fort Augustus Golf Club demands high precision. It is relatively difficult to retrieve golf balls from the areas surrounding the greens and along the fairway due to number of heath plants. This traditional golf course includes natural hazards, such as free-roaming sheep that assist in mowing the grass at Fort Augustus Golf Club. The 6th hole offers especially attractive views of the Caledonian Canal with its regal boat traffic. The biggest challenge, however, is the 9th hole with its blind tee and a large sand bunker. If needed, trolleys and golf clubs are available for rent. In the small, but extraordinarily cozy club house, various refreshments and snacks are offered at the bar.
