The Golf de la Grande Romanie golf club is situated near to the Courtisols commune in north-east France, which belongs to the department of Marne in the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region. It is located on the grounds of an ancient Roman camp. This was also the location of the Battle of the Catalonian Plains in 451 a.d. against the Hun warrior Attila. The Golf de la Grande Romanie club is nestled in the historic fields of Champagne, at the gates of the capital city of the department, Châlons-en-Champagne. It can be reached in 20 minutes from Châlons-en-Champagne via the D3. The club was founded in 1987 and is home to a par 72, 18 hole tournament course in the typical Scottish links course style, which was designed by the golf architect Alain Tribout in 1989. The course is 6,533 meters long and is therefore one of the longest courses in France. It is a tactically and technically challenging course for golfers of all skill levels with its long, broad fairways, raised greens, sand bunkers and sand hills, doglegs and countless water hazards. The Golf de la Grande Romanie was built on limestone subsurface so that the course can be played on all year round. In the practice area of the golf club there is a driving range with 20 tees, 10 of which are covered, and a putting and a pitching green, as well as a compact course for practicing short shots.
