Directly on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol, the Golfclub Reit im Winkl e.V. Kössen is the first border-straddling golf club in Europe. Located in the German town of Reit im Winkl and in the Austrian town of Kössen, it offers breathtaking views of the Emperor Mountains, the Chiemgauer and Tyorlian Alps, as well as Unterberg. Nearly the equidistant from both Winkl (3.3 kilometers) and Kössen (3.5 kilometers), the Golfclub Reit im Winkl e.V. Kössen is well connected to the larger cities in the area including Innsbruck, Bergdesgaden, and Salzburg via the A12 and B305. Founded in 1985, the club boasts an 18-hole-course, type “mountain” with par 70, designed by the golf course architects Thomas Himmel and John Harradin. The course is considered to be exceptionally athletic with its various water hazards, biotopes, deep ravines, and high mountain tees with significantly lower-lying greens. Here, golfers will have to develop a far-sighted strategy and a creative game. Nevertheless, beginners also have the opportunity to have a successful golf experience at this course that excites with its dual nationality. Six fairways are located on the Tyrolian side, another twelve on the Bavarian. But the driving range – whether in Germany or Austria – at Golfclub Reit im Winkl e.V. Kössen has 25 tees, of which ten are covered. Golfers can also train for success at the putting green with a practice bunker.
