Amidst high oaks and pine trees lies the Litchfield Golf & Country Club, near the city of Pawleys Island in Georgetown County, which is located in the US state of South Carolina. It extends across the site of a former rice plantation at Waccamaw River in the Lowcountry-Region at Grand Strand. From Pawleys Island’s city center, Litchfield Golf & Country Club can be accessed via the US-17 N in seven minutes. From Myrtle Beach, it will take 35 minutes via the US-17 S. In 1966, it opened a traditional 18-hole course with par 72, whose design was adopted by the famous golf course architect William C. Byrd. He designed a 6,119-meter-long course with narrow, tree-lined fairways, well-shielded small greens and many doglegs, which can be found at 8 of the 18 holes. At 12 of the holes at the course of Litchfield Golf & Country Club, bunkers and water hazards are another complication. The fairways are equipped with four different tee boxes, so that golfing beginners as well as experienced golfers can manage the athletically and technically challenging course. This course belongs to the first eight golf courses built on Grand Strand, and was the first ever to be built in the Pawleys Island/Litchfield area. According to Conde Nast Traveler, it belongs to the “World’s 50 Best”.
