Pielis-Golf

The golf club Pielis-Golf lies picturesquely on the banks of Pielinen Lake in Nurmes, a town in the North Karelia region. It is located on the grounds of a former farmstead surrounded by woods, which was initially used as a retirement home before Pielis-Golf made its home there. The club is eight minutes from the center of Nurmes, but is otherwise considered a remote course since the next larger cities are further than 100 kilometers away. These include Kuopio, Kajaani, and Koensuu, from which Pielis-Golf can be reached in 90 to 100 minutes on Routes 75 and 90. It was founded in 1988, and hosts a 9-hole course of the parkland type, with par 36. Kosti Kuronen is responsible for its design. The course is 2,848 meters long and extends over hilly terrain with numerous water hazards. The highlight of the course is hole 6, which lies on a headland in the middle of the lake. A special challenge is therefore posed by the water level of Pielinen Lake, which can vary depending on the weather conditions. Due to its idyllic location, Pielis-Golf is one of the most beautiful golf parks in Finland. It also provides good practice opportunities for golfers; it has a driving range with 35 tees, of which two have a roof, as well as a putting and pitching area.
