Yalong Bay Golf Club

The Yalong Bay Golf Club is located by Yalong Bay, a 7.5-kilometer-long beach to the southeast of the coastal town of Sanya, on the southern Chinese island of Hainan. It lies on a 68-hectare estate surrounded by mountains and streaked with lakes, swamps, waterfalls, and coconut palm plants. From Sanya’s center, the G223 takes golfers to the Yalong Bay Golf Club in about 40 minutes. It was founded in 1997 and houses an 18-hole links course with par 72, for which renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. supplied the design. He created a 6,573-meter-long, slightly hilly course in the shape of a dragon claw, thereby picking up on the name of the Yalong Bay Golf Club, which stems from the dragon king’s son of Chinese mythology. Narrow, mostly long fairways with five tees and fast, wavy greens characterize the course’s layout. It is scattered with 98 sand bunkers, sand dunes, a river that crosses the course, as well as additional water hazards that provide challenges to golfers. 9 of the 18 holes are illuminated. The Yalong Bay Golf Club hosted the APGA Sanya Open from 2003 to 2007 and is planning another 18-hole course for future championships. In the club’s practice area, golfers will find a driving range with 26 tees as well as two putting and two practice bunkers.
